Our Story

In the year 1992, SAHAYOG was started by three activists who were committed to work for the rights of marginalized communities: Jashodhara Dasgupta, Dr. Abhijit Das and Satish Kr. Singh in Almora, Uttarakhand. For close to a decade, SAHAYOG worked with communities on a variety of issues such as Maternal health, community development, and participation of women in civic bodies. In the year 2000, SAHAYOG moved to Lucknow and started working with community based organizations in over 20 districts of Uttar Pradesh. SAHAYOG is currently working closely in partnership with a group of organizations to provide technical support, capacity building and knowledge-sharing on gender, women’s health and rights, working with adolescent girls on their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and leadership, as well as working with men on gender justice and ending violence against women.

Formation of MASVAW (Men’s Action for Stopping Violence Against Women), one of the first initiatives to mobilize men in the journey towards gender equity justice

Formation of a grassroot women’s forum called Mahila Swasthya Adhikar Manch (MSAM), consisting of 10,000 rural, Dalit and Muslim women in Uttar Pradesh

MASVAW ran a campaign which was successful in getting 4 universities to set up CASH committees as mandated by the Vishaka Guidelines.

SAHAYOG was instrumental in altering Health Schemes to remove the two child norm and age criteria from the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and the National Maternity Benefits Scheme NMBS by the MoHFW

Youth Policy adopted by the Uttar Pradesh Government based on the draft prepared by the Youth Policy Advocacy Network (YPAN), a youth forum nurtured by SAHAYOG

Worked closely with the government to facilitate 100% COVID vaccination for over 6 million people in 8 districts
